The @nationalgrid (cough, Niagara Mohawk) building on Erie Boulevard in Syracuse, NY has a new glow! Hereās what makes this renovation so incredible:
āØ 600 energy-efficient LED fixtures now illuminate this iconic Art Deco structure, capable of displaying millions of colors with dynamic motion and fading effects.
šļø Originally built in 1932 as the Niagara Hudson building ā the predecessor company of Niagara Mohawk and, later, National Grid. From its first day, the building was lit at night as a symbol of companyās work and the age of electricity.
š” Exterior lighting was restored as part of a multi-phase renovation, with phase one now complete. The upgrades ensure that this Syracuse landmark shines brighter than ever, with the work continuing through 2025.
ā” The buildingās original lighting was discontinued in 1939 during wartime blackouts. Today, the new energy-efficient system brings it back to life, combining history with cutting-edge technology.
š Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this renovation is a perfect blend of preserving the past while embracing the future.
Stay tuned as this historic gem continues its transformation!

Historic Charm from Every Angle! Thereās something truly magical about the Gridley Buildingāa timeless treasure that has stood proudly between Clinton Square and Hanover Square in the heart of Syracuse. Designed by the legendary Horatio Nelson White, this architectural gem once overlooked the historic Erie Canal (now Erie Boulevard), and its story is woven into the very fabric of our cityās history.
Every time I photograph it, especially with my drone, I fall in love all over again. That iconic clocktower, perfectly framed by the charm of Hanover Square below, feels like a scene straight out of a vintage postcard.
Syracuseās beauty is in its layersāpast and present blending seamlessly. The Gridley Building is a reminder of where weāve been and the vibrant energy we carry forward.
